Breakthrough agreement will save lives, they say.
An equally divided bipartisan group of senators issued a joint statement Sunday saying that had come to a solution to gun violence. The group, led by Senators John Cornyn of Texas and Chris Murphy of Connecticut, said their plan aimed to save lives and protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
The plan would allocate more funding for mental health services across states, school security, and flag potential gun buyers who have criminal records. Purchasers under 21 years of age will go through an investigative period to review their mental health and juvenile records.
Theirs is the first measure to be introduced in more than 30 years and the group hopes the general Senate body will adopt their proposal. Meanwhile, President Biden said he would sign the more extensive bill that was passed by the House.
